Round cabochons of honey Baltic amber form the centerpiece of these oxidized sterling silver disc earrings made with elaborate scrollwork. The earrings measure approximately 1 1/4" in length, as measured from the top of the sterling silver lockwire, by 1" wide (diameter). Made from gem-quality Baltic Amber from Poland and Lithuania.
Baltic amber is the fossilized resin or sap from extinct prehistoric coniferous pine trees which formed a huge forest 40-60 million years ago at the present location of the Baltic Sea. Stone Age sun worshippers and the early Greeks and Romans believed that wearing amber kept one healthy and young.
